Stupidest formula I've ever seen - Trump Tariff Explained (And Americans are hopeless in mathematics)

Trump Tariff Formula

Δ = Delta, represents change in math.

τi = Tau, used to represent tariff in this instance, with i being import rate.

xi = Defined as total exports to country from U.S.

mi - = Defined as total imports from country to U.S.

ε = Epsilon, used to represent price elasticity of import demand. The USTR set this at 4.

φ = Phi, used to represent the elasticity of import prices with respect to tariffs. The USTR set this at 0.25.

New tariff rate = (Export - Import) ÷ (4 × 0.25 × Import)

　　              = (Export - Import) ÷ Import

∴　ΔTrump tariff rate = (Export - Import) ÷ Import
